Girl Scouts Give Bald Cypress Trees a New Home

On March 27, 2011 Girl Scouts from aroundPalmettoIslandState Parkcame together to plant 140 bald cypress trees around our 7 acre pond.  The trees will provide shade to future generations of fishermen and their families and also provide shelter for insects and animals.  Not only did the girls and their families participate in a conservation activity they got to spend time in the cypress tree’s habitat and witness animals in their natural environment such as wood ducks and alligators.  We hope that all participants return to the park to observe the progress of their little trees and feel that they have contributed to making the park a beautiful place in our state.  We would like to thank the following troops for their time and efforts: Troop 055 from Kaplan, Troop 2519 from Abbeville and Erath, Troop 2234 from Indian Bayou and Troop 2801 from Abbeville. Great Job Girls!!!
